New Video 9/14 - Type bar bearings and more

We've put up another video - generally concerning the Visigraph, but exploring the difference between segment mounted type bars and individual type bar bearings.  We compare the Visigraph to some other early machines.

There's bonus footage included, of a machine and device we haven't shown before -- a Brother JP-3 series machine and the rare Dial-A-Type changeable type head.

  1. Nice Brother! I wondered if I'd ever see a dial-a-type slug that wasn't just a sketch in a Monkey Ward's catalog :D

    2. I think I sent you something, but I hit the go back key to fast and now I think it's gone. I didn't know this is blogging so I think I signed up for it. It gave me a new email address, don't know what it did with my email address that I use on everything. Oh well, I might as well start over. We are cleaning out my Mom's home and have a underwood typewriter. The# on it is 15-7406666. We think it's a 1915 (4or5) I have no room for it. I would like to sell it and don't know how to figure out a price for it. It is dusty and my mother was a smoker a few of the keys stick which I can put back easily. I have been reading about the different types of typewriter s on your site. It has no #1 key and right now it only has one color ribbon. I can picture my Mom needing the red also. It doesn't have any color keys. My mother was using it up till the time of her stroke in 05. The ribbon is dried out . She was a bookkeeper and used primarily paper for her work. She didn't own a computer. But seamed to know how one worked. She worked out of her home and at times had 6 account s at the same time. Sorry for getting off topic. Now where was I, it's really heavy, so I would have to try to sell it around here, North Tonawanda, NY 14120 area . I've never used ebay and don't know how to. It would cost to much to mail it anywhere! I'm so glad you have this site, it's very helpful. I've been trying to get information about this for a while now. I also have a Westcott typist rule that would go with the typewriter and a sample size KO-REC-TYPE POLY 1973 by the Eaton Allen Corp. This is for errors made with all polyethylene ribbons. But below it, it has a list of some machines that use Carbon ribbons one is the Underwood. I have no idea if this could be used with the Underwood, but it goes with it as well. I really wish I could keep the typewriter but there just isn't any room for it in my home. I remember my Mom using it. We also have a very old adding machine, but I haven't had the time to look into it. Mom used an update machine for her work. Is there a way that I could send you a photo of the typewriter? I really would like your opinion on the age of the typewriter and how much I should try and sell it for. I want to be fair but in the same time not to just give it away. I know they would have to get it cleaned up. I hope you can help me. I pray that you get this message. Who knows where my other message went! But now I think I'm set up as a blogger? Which I know nothing about! ! This is tough, I'd rather talk to someone. Thank you for your time . I don't know how you are going to be able to get in touch with me. I will check out this site every day. Hopefully I've done this correctly. I just don't know what I should hit below this message? Reply as, publish, preview , notify me , Sign out ? I'm going to try notify me first . great it tells me that comments will be sent to my total new email. Now what to hit?

  5. Really interesting. Definitely keep doing these. Some of us don't have the skill (or the courage) to dig too deep in the workings of a machine, and it's fun to learn from your investigations.
