Will & Dave add a YouTube Channel

We've decided that it would be fun and interesting to try some experimental videos detailing some of the work we do on various things, which naturally includes typewriters.

The first video, which is a short six minute look at the Visigraph, can be found at the following link:

Visigraph in Detail 1 - new YouTube video

We hope you enjoy this; it's the first time we've done anything like this, and it was kind of fun to do.  So, if it keeps being fun, and if people enjoy them, we'll keep going.

There is now a link to the YouTube channel in the right sidebar of this site.  There will be other videos on there than typewriters, but we'll post here when typewriter videos go up.

  1. I enjoyed the video of the Visigraph. Good lighting job - it was nice to be able to see what you were pointing out. An interesting coincidence that I yesterday received a letter from a correspondent who collects Visigraphs.

    1. Thanks very much for your kind words. I've replied to your email... and I've added your blog to our blog roll. I look forward to perusing your blog's content as it sure looks like a number of varied interests are covered that I'll enjoy.

  2. What a great idea! It seemed slow until the second voice 'appeared' and the dialogue really lit up the exposition of the machine. Thanks for taking the trouble. Also, if it helps to keep visitors on your site rather than them having to scoot off to YouTube, it is very simple to copy the embed code from YouTube and place it directly into the html editor pane of your your post.

    1. Thanks, Rob. I decided just to hotlink the YouTube video and not dally with embedding since it was the end of a long day here, and most folks don't mind the hotlink - back button thing. (Custom templates here force resizing the video embed, which I remembered from the old days during the height of the Fukushima accident when I was putting lots of videos on Atomic Power Review, another Blogspot hosted vehicle.) The only thing I might change is the setting (if available here on blogspot) to 'open content in new tab / window,' which is available when you create the link on Wordpress, which I use for the American Nuclear Society's site. I'll have to look at the post and see if that option's available using Blogspot.

    2. Yep. Open link in new window is a checkbox which stays the way you checked/unchecked it as a preference. Resizing the iFrame is as quick as popping 530px into the custom width box over on Youtube. I'm really looking forward to the next video, whichever way it is served-up.

  4. Nice video Will, it was interesting to see how it all came a part.
It is sad that it is in such a poor state. I must be one of the lucky ones as my example has only the type slug "E" missing.
Do you by any chance have a loose "E"? that I could re-solder onto mine?
    Best regards,
    John

    1. We sure don't - this is one of the lucky shipping examples where there were no loose parts rattling around in the shipping box!
